Role Model-

I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho, in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. My sister and I grew up in a small church of which my Grandfather was Pastor. I grew up loving music and the outdoors, where my Father and I often fished and hunted together. In my teens, I gave up studying classical piano and began exploring guitar, bass and drums. I remember the night I heard “Where the Streets Have No Name” by U2, and decided I wanted to make music that evoked that kind of emotion and passion.
When I was sixteen, I met a worship leader named Kent Henry who challenged me to use my music for something higher than entertainment. He explained that worship is the highest art form because it is devoted solely to the pleasure and glory of Him who created art and beauty. When Kent led worship, it was so much more than just singing nice songs in church – it felt more like an encounter with the Living God. In the few hours I spent worshiping with Kent, God became more real to me than ever before – and music was the language of this connection.

I set off to Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee intending to major in music, but soon realized that what I needed was a foundation and preparation for ministry. So I graduated with a degree in Bible and Theology in 1995. During my college years I started a student-led worship service on campus, made some friends for life, but most importantly, I met my lovely wife, Michele. We were married and began our family in Tennessee, before moving to Boise, Idaho to accept a staff position at the church I grew up in.

Since then I have served in a variety of ministry roles. Most recently I traveled widely as part of Church Resource Ministries, training worship leaders and offering worship seminars for churches. Although I enjoyed the travel, I missed not being more focused in a local church context. God answered that desire by leading us to Hope Church. As Worship Arts Director, I am passionate about creating worship experiences at Hope where people can connect with God through the Arts.
My wife Michele, my children Joshua, Catherine, Emily and Hannah, and I live in the near West End and enjoy walks on Belle Island with our Golden Retriever, cafes and restaurants in Carytown and the Fan, and lots of cookouts with our friends. We believe the future is bright for Hope Church, and are excited to be a part of what He is doing.
