More Tamar….

Women No Comments

The story of Tamar, Judah and company must be the first soap opera ever recorded. Except unlike the fantastical story lines TV writers sometimes create, the story of Tamar’s life is real. It’s captured in messy and complicated detail in Genesis 35-49. Dysfunctional family life? Check. Sexual exploits? Check. Jealousy, Impulsive Action, Drama? Check, check, check.

The graphic details of the story can overshadow the big narrative of Judah’s family life and the fall and rise of his character through one woman: Tamar.

If Thursday has left you intrigued by the woman of Tamar, listen here to hear author Carolyn Custis James talk about the revival of Tamar’s proper place in the history of biblical women.

What did we glean from Tamar’s story?
1. Life is not a fairy tale.
2. Both boldness and patience characterize a woman following God.
2. God can redeem an entire family through one willing woman.
…and the list goes on. What do you glean from the story of Tamar?

Join us this Thursday as we discuss the next woman mentioned in Jesus’ lineage: Rahab. You’ll find her story in Joshua 2-6. Thrive meets at Hope Church each week at 10 AM (with childcare) and 7pm. Thrive is always open to newcomers, and we look forward to meeting you this week! For more information, contact Lisa at lisamarshall812@yahoo.com.
