What I like best about what I do
The kids! It is such a privilege to do what I do and to be able to share the Gospel in such creative and fun ways.

For fun I enjoy

Reading, spending time with family and friends, decorating, teaching at Thrive and going for long walks with our dog, Zoe.  Our favorite place as a family is the beach-any beach and any time of the year!

BIO
I grew up in Michigan as an only child with a large extended family.   We went to church regularly, but mostly because it was the right thing to do.  I attended Catholic school, so religious education was a big part of my upbringing. But outside of church and school, we didn’t talk much about God or our faith.  I’ve always believed in God, but I didn’t quite understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with Christ until much later.

After graduating from the smallest high school you can imagine, I attended the University of Michigan where I received a degree in English. Go Blue!  During my college years, I went to church occasionally, but it wasn’t a big part of my life.  After graduation I moved to Richmond to work for Capital One before going on to graduate school where I received my Masters of Teaching. As a teacher, I found my passion and I taught both second and sixth grade.

While at Capital One, I met my amazing husband Jeff. Early in our marriage we moved to the land of sun, surf and perfection-San Diego, CA. Our lives and our faith changed forever with this move. We found a church that felt relevant-what we learned on Sundays, we used on Mondays!  Within a couple of months, we were both serving in Children’s Ministry.  I couldn’t get enough and started hanging around the church helping the children’s pastor any way I could. I started volunteering in children’s ministry because I was a teacher and it felt comfortable.  I never imagined at that time, that I would one day be a children’s ministry director!  It was out in San Diego that I began to make time for God in my daily life and I really began to feel His presence.  I finally understood what people were talking about when they talked about a relationship with God.  I felt changed on the inside and old worries began to disappear. What a difference!

We found Hope shortly after returning to Richmond in 2006 and have loved being a part of the Hope family.  As a new mom, I started attending Thrive and was deeply affected by the teachings and relationships that I found there.  I was eager to get involved in the work Hope was doing, first through Thrive and eventually through The Zone.

Jeff and I have seven-year-old twins, Jack and Grace. You can find them hanging out in The Zone on Sunday mornings and often times you will see them running around Hope during the week.
