I grew up in the Midwest near St. Paul, Minnesota, in a Christian family. I was the oldest of 3 girls, and we spent our time camping and playing soccer. Singing in the youth choir was also something I enjoyed. I always got a lot out of church, but the church I grew up in emphasized the experience of worship and the importance of the Bible, not a personal relationship with Jesus. However, I grew in my relationship with God through various struggles and always finding him by my side. Somehow he always knows how to speak to each one of us in a way that we understand.
After high school, I obtained my undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin. While there, I studied in Scotland for a semester and traveled around the United Kingdom. I fell in love with Scotland, and later Japan and Italy, while traveling on other trips. Through all of my travels, I felt God continuing to reach out and show me that he loved me. After college, and marrying my high school sweetheart, I moved to Fairfax, Virginia for his job. There, I taught high school history for over a decade and continued to grow in my walk of faith through church and Bible studies. Worship, whether in church or through things such as nature, continued to move my heart closer to God. In Fairfax, I also obtained my Masters degree from George Mason University. We loved living in Northern Virginia, but felt God calling us somewhere else. My family moved to Richmond in 2014 and welcomed our second child to the world soon after. We have loved attending HOPE Church and getting to know the wonderful people there. After volunteering for a few years, I am grateful to join the HOPE team and continue to grow in God and community.
