Prayer Ministry

prayer 300x197 Prayer MinistryWe believe prayer is powerful and effective. Dependence on God through prayer is foundational to our life and provides a solid base for all we do. An example of the importance of prayer is found in Exodus 17, where Moses and Joshua are leading the Isrealites in fighting the Amalekites. Joshua is in the thick of the battle while Moses is standing on top of the hill and raising his hands. When his hands are up, the Israelites are winning. When he gets tired and drops his arms, they start to lose. Finally Aaron and Hur came to the rescue. They sit Moses down and help him hold his arms up. This seems a perfect picture of prayer support.   While we aren’t fighting Amalekites around here, we are waging some fierce spiritual battles.

The Prayer Ministry Team gathers at 8:45 each Sunday morning to pray for our leaders, the morning services, the body of Hope, our community and the church throughout the world. We are also available to pray with individuals after each service and to visit people in the hospital to pray for healing.

Hospital or Nursing Home Prayer Visitation - Send an email to prayer@hopecentral.com, call the church office, or Rose Steele to notify us if you or your family has a need for prayer.

Private prayer is available on Tuesday evenings for healing and soaking prayer (by appointment only).  If you have a heart for prayer there are different ways you could participate. For more information about being part of prayer ministry, if you want to share a prayer request, or if you need Tuesday evening private prayer, please contact Brenda Murray at  (804) 357-3331.

In addition to the other prayer times, we have listed below some of the other different ways to get involved in the prayer ministry:

  • Email prayer team member – Give us your email so we can put you on the list to receive the weekly and urgent prayer requests.  Pray (at home) during the week for these important prayer requests.

  • 2nd Sunday of the month prayer team luncheon – After the 11:15 service.  All are welcome to come and hear a teaching and fellowship with the prayer team members.  Call Rose Steele to find out more details (804-426-9769).

  • Annual Prayer Vigils – We have several prayer vigils scheduled (to be announced) for the year.  Sign-up for one of the slots to pray for the needs of the church, our community, our government, our missionaries, etc.
  • Hospital or Nursing Home visitation prayer – Do you have compassion and love for hurting people?  Would you like to make a difference?  Prayer offered to someone in the hospital or a nursing home is vital to recovery and shows the love of Jesus to those in need.
